Our commitment
Jacksonville Cyber Defense helps individuals and small businesses stay safe online with the S.E.C.U.R.E. Framework, security resources, an incident wizard, and a cyber crime reporting directory. We want everyone to be able to use this site, including people with disabilities and people who use assistive technology such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice control, or keyboard-only navigation.
The standard we follow
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. This is the standard most widely used to measure website accessibility, including under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
We consider this site partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. This means we have addressed the guidelines we know of, but some content, mainly from other websites we link to, may not fully conform. If you find a part that doesn’t meet the standard, please tell us.
What we’ve done
- A “Skip to main content” link lets keyboard and screen reader users go straight to the page content.
- Every link, button, and menu can be used with a keyboard alone, and the item you’re on is clearly outlined.
- Headings, landmarks, and labels are marked up so screen readers can understand and navigate the site.
- Text and background colors meet WCAG AA contrast ratios.
- Images that carry meaning have text descriptions, and decorative images and icons are hidden from screen readers.
- Links that open in a new tab or window say so to screen reader users.
- If you’ve turned on “reduce motion” on your device, the site turns off its animations.
- The layout works on phones and when zoomed to 400%, without sideways scrolling.
- The site works in Windows High Contrast and other forced-colors modes.
- The mobile menu tells screen readers whether it is open or closed, and the Escape key closes it.
- The incident wizard moves keyboard focus to each new step’s heading, and your current choice is marked with a check mark, not just a color.
- The incident wizard’s “Print my plan” button gives you a printed copy of your steps.
- When you copy the link to this site, screen readers announce that it was copied.
- FAQ answers use standard expandable sections that work with keyboards and screen readers.
How we test
We check the site ourselves using automated testing with axe-core in Chrome, at desktop and phone sizes. It has been reviewed by our own team but has not been formally audited by an outside accessibility firm. We review accessibility again whenever we make significant changes to the site.
Known limitations
- Other websites. The incident wizard and reporting directory send you to government agencies such as the FTC, the FBI’s IC3, CISA, and the FCC. Our resources link to security tool providers, and our shop runs on Fourthwall. They have their own accessibility policies.
- JavaScript. The incident wizard needs JavaScript turned on in your browser. Without it, every reporting resource is still listed in the Cyber Crime Reporting Directory.
If any of these get in your way, contact us and we’ll help another way.
Getting help another way
If you can’t use part of this site, we’re glad to help directly. For example, we can:
- Send you information from this site in another format, such as plain text or a Word document.
- Tell you by email where to report a scam, hack, or identity theft, and send you the incident wizard’s steps for your situation.
Tell us about a barrier
If you have trouble using any part of this site, or need information in a different format, we want to hear from you. You can reach us here:
- Email info@jaxcyberdefense.com
It helps if you tell us which page or feature you were using, what went wrong, and what browser or assistive technology you were using, but none of that is required. We’ll reply as soon as we can and work with you on a fix.
